Forging For Peace

A Project Organized by an International Team of Blacksmiths

For centuries, blacksmiths have made nails. They’ve made everyday tools. And they’ve made weapons of war. Now blacksmiths across the globe are making special large “Peace Nails” with a purpose: helping people in need.

Your gift connects you to this purpose.

Join the Worldwide Movement

Since 2015 Peace Nails have raised over $50,000 to help people impacted by war with food, shelter, medical care or other humanitarian needs.

With your donation of $100 or more to a Forging for Peace Charity or Non-Profit you will receive a handmade, signed and numbered Peace Nail.

The nail is an international symbol of connection. Blacksmiths have used them as a signature for centuries, driving them into special nail trees to say “I was here”.

These special large nails are made to advocate for charities and non-profit organizations that help people in need or those damaged by war.

The Northern Michigan Connection

The particular dove you see forged on these Peace Nails was created at a conference in California in 2015 by a team of blacksmiths led by Alfred Bullermann. American blacksmith Scott Lankton from Cedar, Michigan was among that team.

Lankton and Bullermann previously worked together in 2005 forging the barrel and other parts of a military tank to a sculpture that benefited Unicef.

Working Together for Peace in the World

Alfred Bullermann invited Scott Lankton to bring “Forging for Peace” project to the United States. Lankton is making the first Peace Nails here in Michigan as a demonstration for peace.

Lankton is “Peacesmith” #26. Other blacksmiths across the country are encouraged to join the project.

We all know that war is wrong, and it is true hell for all those caught up in it. No matter where it is and who is fighting against whom, in the end it is just misery and more misery.

It is the simple wish for most everyone on earth: to live in peace.
